A Little Uplifting
59Some days I find myself doing nothing but complaining about all the little problems in my life. We all have them. Car repairs, a job where we feel unappreciated, aches and pains, the weather.... Ninety-nine percent of the time, these are very minor bumps in the road of life. Not even a real pothole. But far too often, we let these little bumps get us down. Then it's even harder to pick ourselves out of a slump because we look at "all the things" that are wrong with our lives.
Bookmark this page. When you have one of those days, reread the story linked below. It really puts my problems in perspective when I think of what might have been. Of what is for some people. Not just every once in a while, but every day. Day in and day out.
I have just a tiny sense of what this man has gone through since I watched my sister deal with a missing limb from birth. But this man is truly inspiring. His wife is a wonderful example of what love should be: loving the person and not what you see when you look at the person.
Mind you, I don't pity this man. In fact, I envy him in some ways because he's found what so man of us are looking for: real meaning in our lives and not the superficial stuff we deal with on a day to day basis. Superficial things like cars and houses and clothes and hairstyles....
It's sad in a way that we need to see another's "misfortune" in order to appreciate what we have. Reminds me of some lyrics from a Melissa Etheridge song that goes, "There's something wrong when we don't start living until we almost die."
I hope you are as inspired as I was by John Robinson.
